43" x 70" ©Classical Carpets Design by Christopher Robin Andrews, production directed by I. Tekin, weaving overseen by Mustafa, woven by Hacer & Cenet, yarns dyed by Mustafa, finished carpet washed by Abdurrahman and Abdullah , completed in February of 2008 in a village in the Ushak region of Central Anatolia . It has our characteristic wide selvedges, extended kilims and exposed warp fringes, which we often see in the best preserved antique carpets. In the original carpet the fringes are especially long, suggesting that the carpet was intended for use as a table covering or wall hanging. As in all of our carpets, the yarns are handspun wool, including the fully dyed warp and weft. It has a knot density of ~100 knots @ square inch. Colors include: madder red, weld yellow, medium indigo blue and naturally black sheep's wool, all using natural dyestuffs. The pile is hand sheared low, and the finished carpet is washed with mild soap and water. This carpet was inspired by a rug from the Budapest Musuem of Applied Arts, and also by the work and mentorship of Stefano Ionescu on the "Transylvanian" carpets. (http:// transylvanianrugs.com) |
