53" x 75" ©Classical Carpets Design by Christopher Robin Andrews, production directed by I. Tekin, weaving overseen by Mustafa, woven by Fadime, Hacer, Zeynep & Esma, yarns dyed by Mustafa, finished carpet washed by Abdurrahman and Abdullah, completed in February of 2008 in a village in the Ushak region of Central Anatolia . It was inspired by a carpet from the Philadelphia Museum of Fine Arts collection. The Wheel carpets with fully developed and accurate interlace medallions are amongst the rarest in the world. There are only about a dozen or so of this type, which are also referred to as "Para-Mamluk" or "Damascus" carpets. This carpet is very finely woven for a Central Anatolian carpet, at ~ 144 knots @ square inch. The yarns are all handspun wool, including the warp and weft. Colors include: madder and violet crimson red, weld yellow, medium indigo blue green, naturally black sheeps's wool, and ivory white, all using natural dyestuffs. |
